Installing Ubuntu 7.10 on Benq Joybook R55

This laptop is operating under Kernel version 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP (worked also with previous versions of 2.6)

Basic Installation of Ubuntu 7.10:

Obtaining Ubuntu 7.10 : Ubuntu.com
Installing : boot on live CD. test. easy install.
Post-Install modifications/tweaks: had to modify xorg.conf manually to allow 1280x800 resolution (widescreen).

Unresolved issues

ACPI problems, computer wakes up from sleep, then goes to standby modus, reboots correctly in state you left.
Nvidia GeForce: did not get 3D acceleration to work correctly.
Soundcard is not very loud.
